{tools of the trade of mending. Simple or complex, love them all}

From time to time over the last year I’ve tweeted, posted, and in general mentioned in passing the book I’m working on with Storey Publishing. They approached me a little over a year ago about writing a sewing book for them that’s all about mending – both to make it like new and add a little pizzaz! I know many of you have mended things around your home, well, I want you all to be in my book! I want to show off all the creative ways people from around the world mend their clothing.

{my favorite shirt, repaired, loved, and stitched over and over again}

If you have an inventive way of mending holes, patching worn spots, covering stains, or just embellishing a old piece of clothing to give it a whole new look; than you definitely need to get in touch. We are looking for inventive examples to photograph and feature in my book.

The book will be published in January 2012 and be broadly distributed in North America and abroad. If your work is selected for inclusion, you’ll get prominent mention in the photo caption, a listing in the contributors section of the book, and a complimentary copy of the book.

How you can be a part of my first book!

The final selections will be made by February 4. If your work is selected, you will need to send the actual piece of work for us to photograph. It will be returned to you once our photo shoot is complete in March.

Happy Crafting and I hope to hear from all of you very soon!

  1. Kristin, Will be getting in touch when I find the pictures of using bleach and bubble wrap to cover stains on a t-shirt.

  2. Kristin,

    Will be getting in touch with you when I find the pictures of using liquid bleach (or soft scrub) and bubble wrap to recover a shirt with a stain…

  3. I am -already- looking forward to read your upcoming book, Kristin! (No pressure, eh!)
    Creative Mending, what an interesting AND useful idea. Exactly what we need in the crowded world of craft books. :-)

  4. Since I can’t part with the items the mended items, I dug a pair of my daughter’s old jeans out of the “too small” pile so I can mend them and submit them. Taking step by step photos for my own purposes…

  5. I wish I could submit all of the creative mending we do in the theater! For “A Christmas Carol” there is always tons and some of it is faux, to create the illusion of wear or to add character to a garment.

  6. I have just finished a beautifull item for Christmas, can anybody from all over the world send in the photo?

    1. You bet! I would love if you submitted it. Just keep in mind you will have to send it in for the photoshoot if chosen – that’s in March and we would send it back to you right after that.

    1. I’ll be sending out emails this weekend after I round them all up and make a mailing list for it.

  7. Just submitted my project, total meltdown after I lost my way to the link, had pc problems and topped off with baby teething mamadrama!
    Two days late? I’m really hoping that this is considered fashionably late and not completely struck off.
