I’m faced with a dilemma. I’m stuck on which color combo and fabric choice to go with for my next sewing adventure.
I’ve been holding on to this brown fabric for “just the right project” and I think I found it, but I’m just not sure. Here is the dress I’m going to make. It’s Butterick B5210 and in theory it’s Fast and Easy –looking forward to that.
So I’m thinking the brown crepe style fabric would give this pattern a nice rustic look, especially if I trimmed it with a solid color. I was thinking blue, because I love blue. The brown fabric will be sewn so the textured stripes are vertical, not horizontal.
I’m starting to lean toward this linen I dyed this winter. It’s been suffering in stashdom for too long.

Then I got cold feet and thought, “What if this pattern looks rotten on me?” There isn’t enough to make another dress from this fabric. It’s a thrifted find from awhile ago. That is a hoarding tendency right there, but I’ll get over it if you think it will look cute.
Anyway, I dug around a little more and thought one of these two options might be fun too:

Okay, so what do you think? It’s times like these I wish there was a Ravelry type community where I could look at all the fabrics and colors and body types with this pattern. Oh wait, that’s Burda Style. I found this member submitted project. Turns out that Butterick B5210 makes a nice blouse if I end up jacking the dress up too much.
I’m going to start adding my projects to Burda Style once I get it all figured out. For whatever reason, I have no clue what they are talking about when they want credit. I’ve tried a few combos to no avail. I’ll figure it out later.

For the crepe fabric dress, I would use the royal blue accent. For the green print fabric, I would go with the lighter blue. For the crepe fabric stripes on the verticle, check the main pattern piece to see how the stripes will work out on the sleeve portion when the garment is finished. You wouldn’t want the sleeve stripe direction to compete with the accent trim and make the eye zoom to that part of the garment. Good luck with your project.
I like the brown with the soft blue. The royal blue is too bold I think in these combinations.

Option 3. Yes! I wish I could put down my knitting and pick up stitching… I'm just so hooked on yarn – hmm, that's crochet.

I actually love Option 3 the best. I would love something made in that fabric, and it shares that quasi retro feel of the pattern. Just my two cents. :)

I like 3, but would prefer gold or white trim instead of the blue. Just saying—-
Because the model on the pattern who is wearing the print on brown background looks better than those with solids, I'd say go with the print and the light blue (option 3). Then, if you like it, you can make it again in the brown.
That brown fabric would make an interesting tunic.
On BurdaStyle.com…if you're referring to the credits line…you don't actually need to put anything there, but sometimes people use it to give credit to their photographers along with a link or to put a link to a tutorial or that sort of thing.
I like option 3, Mostly because I feel the brown as the whole dress might be a bit drab and unrelenting, unless you dressed it up with accessories. The 4th option is ok too, although from what I can see, the blue might be a bit too strong a contrast and detract from both fabrics.
I love option 3, it would be light and summery! I don't think I would pick the linen for this pattern.

very much like option 3 for a summer dress…The wonderful brown fabric might get bunchy with the gathers at the top?

I think my favorite is Option 3 for the dress. The color combination would be nice for a summer blouse or a dress.
