Thrift Kitchen: Sauerkraut with Polish Sausage and Potatoes

My dad and I love this dish. We are the only ones, ha. It definitely is only for those who love sauerkraut. If you are counted among those who do, you will love this dish! For me it’s the ultimate comfort food, and because Jason doesn’t care for it, I get it all to myself.

Ingredients:
1 package of sauerkraut, I like the kind in the frig section next to the pickles
10 small red potatoes, cubed
1 package polish sausage, cut into 1/4 thick slices
Heaping 1/4 cup brown sugar
A dash of salt
1/4 t pepper

Directions:
Place all ingredients into a big slow cooker and stir well, cover and turn on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.

Serve with sour cream and fresh parsley, if available.

Yum yum yum!

  1. this post made my mouth water. yum! guess what we’re having for supper real soon? :)

  2. This is even better if you skip everything but the sourkraut!

Go to Wheatsfield and get the jarred stuff in the coldcase that’s lacto-fermented. Bubbies? Something like that. You’ll be glad you did.

  3. I will show Dad this. He’ll love it:>) I think I might make this for him for supper tonight. We’ve always used idaho potatoes, I think the red potatoes would be better.

  4. mmmm, this is almost exactly how I make it. Pretty easy to make and so, so, soooo delicious! I am a huge sauerkraut fan. In fact if I was stuck on a island and could only choose 5 foods, I would seriously consider sauerkraut!
