Ragbrai Days 2 & 3

What a mash of fun and adventure! Yesterday was great. Set up camp without a hitch.

ragbrai06

hung out in a coffee shop for a spell to enjoy some refreshing coffee and air conditioning and finally, crochet! But such a small amount that I’m not even going to show you. I had to rip it out twice. Bah. But check out my bike.

And all these bikes:

Then the riders were home again.

And we went to forage for food in the throng of RAGBRAI night life.

Had an insanely rough night. Turns out our tent was not even close to water resistant, let alone water proof.

Though you couldn’t tell it was a bad night from the beautiful morning.

We took shelter in the van – thank goodness we were parked so close.

One of our riders had issues was taken out by illness so off two went.

We met them at the midway meeting town and packed the van and headed home. (I had a frozen banana dipped in chocolate here).

These poor shoes. They took so much punishment.

What an adventure!

After seeing it first hand I’m excited to go on the ride next year. In fact, I’ve already set a mini goal for myself for a week long riding/camping trip in October. Leading up to that trip I’ll be going on two 10 mile rides during the week and one progressively long ride on the weekend with my gear (starting at 20 miles and working up to 60 miles in 5 mile increments). I’m also starting with just my cart and adding more weight each ride until I get to 50lbs.

I’m so excited about this trip. It will be a bit of investment of gear, but once I get set up, each trip I take after that will be pretty inexpensive – just paying the camping fee of $8-$15 a night while I ride around Iowa.

If you are interested in that kind of thing, I’ll be keeping track of it over on my personal blog as it has absolutely nothing to do with crafting :) Except I will post what I’m making on my various trips. There is nothing I enjoy more than knitting IN nature, haha.

Craft goodness coming tomorrow with the release of the August issue of Craft Leftovers Monthly. I was shooting for today, but my adventure took it out of me more than I thought it would – mostly because of the lack of sleep due to the tent flood and thunderstorm. Finally feeling back to good after a good 10+ hours of sleep last night.

Bye for now!

Kristin

  1. Looks like a fun time even if you did get rained out that night.

Good luck training for next year.
