For my wedding, we are making a back drop of paper cranes to take pictures with. I was really inspired by this photo, which I now have no idea where I collected it:
and this:
(A Walk in the Closet posted this wonderful photo)
So I have about 200 of these little ladies to make and my family and friends keep offering to help me, but we haven’t been able to get together to so I can show them how. I thought this would be the perfect oppertunity to teach them and all of you how to make my favorite paper crane
How to Make Paper Cranes
All you need is:
- 6×6 inch paper – thinner is better – wrapping paper actually works great. Since I wanted specific colors, I got mine from amazon here: Origami Paper
- Bone folder is helpful
You know, it’s kind of funny, I stepped all this out, then screwed it up, and then got frustrated. Then realized I was re-inventing the wheel, so I decided to just share the video I learned from. I don’t understand a word he’s saying, but it’s seriously the best tutorial out there.
Here it is:
He even shows you how to start out with a letter sized piece of paper and make it into a square. Pretty handy if you are using misprints, which if I wasn’t so color focused is my favorite source for origami paper. That and used wrapping paper.
Now I can pass off stacks of orange and blue paper to friends and family and just direct them to this post.
I’ve been working on a lot of other wedding related projects the past two weeks, and documenting them all of course. Now that I got through the crunch of designing the invites, 2nd page proofs of the prints, and being laid up with some kind of stomach thing, I’ll be happily posting those projects over the next couple of weeks. Sorry for the lack of posts these past two weeks. I’m also happily back in my crafty groove. Hello craft, i’ve missed having time to enjoy and share you with the world.
See you on Monday!
Happy Crafting!
Kristin
