Keep your ears warm with this quick project. It can easily be made in one evening. Using just 50 grams of worsted wool it’s great for using up those balls of yarn residing too long in your stash. Jazz it up with some of your favorite buttons and you are ready to go.
By working all the single crochet stitches through the back loop gives this headwrap a great ribbed look and feel.
Ingredients:
50 grams worsted wool (Himalayan Yarns recycled silk/wool blend is shown)
Three 3/8” buttons (1 cm)
Crochet hook, Size D (3.25 mm)
Note: While not important to get exact gauge, you do want it to be close. You don’t want to end up with a headwrap that is 2 heads to big or a 1/2 a head to small.
Gauge: Worked in pattern (Sc through the back loop)
14 sts = 4 inches (10 cm)
Directions
Chain 67
Row 1: Sc into the first chain from the hook, sc into each chain stitch to end, turn – 65 sts.
Row 2 – button hole row: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into each sc st to last 3 sts; ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1sc into next sc, 1sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 3: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc; sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 4: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc, 1sc in each of next 48 sc sts, turn.
Row 5 – 6: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc; sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 7: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc, 1sc in each of next 48 sc sts, turn.
Row 8 – button hole row: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into each sc st to last 3 sts; ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1sc into next sc, 1sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 9 & 10: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc; sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 11: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc; sc in each sc to end, turn.
Row 12: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc, 1sc in each of next 48 sc sts, turn.
Row 13 – button hole row: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into each sc st to last 3 sts; ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1sc into next sc, 1sc in each sc to end, turn. Row 14: Ch1, sc into base of tch; sc into next sc; sc in each sc to end, turn.
Fasten off yarn – cut yarn, pull through loop.
Weave in all ends.
Sew buttons on so they line up with button holes.
Put on your noggin and keep those ears warm!
Oh and check out the sweet kits for this pattern (and the knit version) in the shop. I love the recycled sari/wool yarn so much that I’ve made up a bunch of kits for you with it. You get 3 awesome, white, vintage buttons too!

Over the last 3 years of writing patterns for Craft Leftovers, I’ve learned a whole lot. Not just about pattern writing, but about layout and graphic design too! I’m happily going through the archive and sprucing up some of the my favorite patterns so they are 1) easier to decipher and 2) look nicer. I’m also offering most of the patterns both in posts and in download format.
The plan is to re-release an archived pattern every other week. In the off weeks, I’ll have new patterns in the mix.
And like always, if have an idea for a Craft Leftover pattern, send me an email. I’ll try my best to make it and write it up. Or if you have a great pattern that want to contribute to the blog, just let me know. I love guest posts. :) Just email me at kristin (at) craftleftovers (dot) com. Or check out the contribute page for all the details on contributing to the zine or the website.

Can you post another photo? It is hard to tell where your hair ends and the wool begins. Thanks!
Sure no problem. I’ve added a picture of it on my head form. I didn’t even think about that, thanks for asking :)
